E:60 - Perfect

This is the story of Heath White which is the subject of an ESPN report on their weekly show “E:60”. The episode was recently posted on YouTube. “E:60” is an hour-long investigative show which features sports-related stories, frequently highlighting deeply personal, even tragic stories in the lives of competitive athletes.

 

The segment of “E:60”—which is aptly titled “Perfect”—will make you smile and make you cry. It runs fourteen minutes, long for a blog link; but I know you’ll be happy you took the time to watch.  It is a brave and wonderfully honest account of one father's struggle through a Down Syndrome diagnosis.

Fall TV Lineup Includes More With Down Syndrome

With the addition of a new character on Fox’s “Glee” this season, the number of actors on television with Down syndrome is on the rise.

 

The season premiere of the high school drama Thursday included the introduction of cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester’s new baby, Robin, played by Jordyn Orr, who has Down syndrome.

The young child is the third character with the chromosomal disorder to be featured on “Glee.” The show continues to include high school cheerleader Becky and previously said goodbye to Sue’s sister, Jean, who had Down syndrome and developed Alzheimer’s disease.

 

In addition to “Glee,” this year actors with Down syndrome are also expected to appear on “Shameless,” “American Horror Story,” “Blue Bloods,” “Legit” and “The New Normal.”

Advocates for those with Down syndrome say the increased presence on TV is a major win for everyone with the disorder, boosting awareness and helping people see beyond stereotypes, reports ABC News.

Weekly Therapy Update & More

Isabella continues to love school.  The elementary school was having spirit days this week to coincide with homecoming.  Everyday of the week had a different fun theme for the kids to get involved with.

 

Monday was Favorite Team Jersey/Shirt...

Tuesday was Crazy Sock Day...

 



 

Wednesday was Mix Match Day...

 

Thursday was Crazy Hair Day...

(I honestly was expecting her to want something more "crazy")

 

 

 

And today is Red and Black Day (the school's colors)...

 Here are Raymond's therapy updates for the week:

 

"Raymond gave me a hard time today.  He was sleepy and just wanted to sit on the couch.  Raymond did not want me to touch him at all.  He did "ring-around-the-rosie" one time with help to stand through 1/2 kneel.  He sat in sidesit briefly and practiced tip-toe standing 3 times.  Raymond worked on balance reactions by pulling the balls off the Velcro which is difficult for him to not lose his balance.  Ended the session working on 1/2 kneel to stand on the couch holding onto the back with one hand."

 "Raymond was awesome today.  He worked on words. 

Used lotto game - Raymond was able to answer 4 what is it? questions and match picture to picture.

He was able to show me triangle, circle, square with minimal prompting.

He said car, plane, square, circle, eyes, mouth and nose.  He identified 3 colors - with signs.

Great session - very attentive = worked on actions.  Brush hair and get dressed."

 "Raymond was a little more cooperative today but still prefers to play in sitting.  Raymond practiced:

1)  Sidesit with legs to the left

2)  1/2 kneel briefly with a lot of support

3)  Jumping over objects 6" with help

4)  Play in standing while fishing briefly"

"Raymond was a little more reserved today.  He signed "play" and said "ooh" when I arrived.  Raymond said "GO" with the racetrack.  When asked questions, Raymond answered "yes!" or "okay!".  He imitated purple and blue for shape sorter.  Worked on imitating sounds for vehicle puzzle."
